The Stelvio Pass is an Alpine pass located between the Lombardia and Trentino Alto Adige, between the Stelvio national park and the Ortles Alps.
It was Emperor Francis I ofAustria to want the Pass of the Stelvio since his intention was to connect Vienna and Milan with Bormio and Valtellina in order to create a tourist place that could be exploited by the Austrian court.
In fact, here it is possible to have fun on the many ski slopes (twelve) made available by the resort. They are suitable for both professional skiers and beginners. The period of opening of the facilities begins at the end of May and ends at the beginning of November. The Stelvio glacier offers the possibility of skiing in a unique and inimitable setting: the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale mountains.
There are six ski lifts on the Stelvio glacier (2760 meters - 3450 metres): Passo Stelvio-Trincerone, Trincerone-Livrio, Geister 1, Geister 2, Payer and Cristallo. The opening hours are from eight to seventeen.

What to do if you don't ski
Ski mountaineering at Passo Stelvio is an alternative to alpine skiing but requires special preparation and attention. The Stelvio glacier offers unique conditions for summer ski mountaineering thanks to its altitude and exposure.
However, it is strongly recommended to rely on a local mountain guide. The mountain guides of the Stelvio Pass know the glacier better than anyone and can provide a safe and unforgettable experience. The guides are able to evaluate the conditions of the glacier, choose the safest routes suited to the level of the participants, and provide instructions on how to behave in case of danger.
In addition to skiing, the Stelvio Pass offers many other activities. For example, the snowcat excursion allows you to explore the glacier and reach otherwise inaccessible places, such as the Sciovia Cristallo, offering breathtaking views of Val Zebù. Furthermore, the area is rich in history, with remains of trenches and fortifications from the First World War, adding an extra level of interest to the visit.
Finally, it is important to remember that, although the Stelvio Pass offers unique opportunities for winter sports enthusiasts, it is not the ideal place for traditional excursions or trekking due to crevasses and terrain conditions. Excursions are only possible with expert guides and require specific preparation to face the challenges of the high mountains.
Holidays at the Stelvio Pass
The Stelvio Pass is undoubtedly the ideal destination for those who want to do one ski holiday in summer. In fact, this location is closed during the winter period since it is one of the snowiest ski destinations in Italy.
Precisely for this reason it remains the only Italian destination for summer skiing. Since the XNUMXs, the area has always been frequented by numerous tourists, including foreign ones, who go to the Stelvio Pass to enjoy their favorite sport even in the hottest months.
