In the heart of the Brands, within the national park of Monti Sibillini and in the province of Macerata, there are the localities of Sassotetto and Santa Maria Maddalena, which together give life to an area, that of sarnano, which receives tourists throughout the year thanks to the beauty of the places and nature.
In winter, Sarnano is a famous ski area, one of the most modern in the Marche region, and is served by 9 ski lifts recently modernized that allow you to enjoy the 11km of slopes present. The list of facilities includes a treadmill, two cableways, four ski lifts and two chair lifts.
In 2006 some changes took place which led to substantial improvements in the entire area: first of all a refuge with an annexed residence (La Capannina) was opened, then the quality of the snow improved thanks to the creation of an artificial snow system, and finally the Maddalena Snowpark, managed by the Hot Ice Snowboard Team, which thus gave life to an area dedicated to snowboard lovers.
In the following season, the 2007/2008, a night lighting system of the slopes, to allow the practice of skiing and snowboarding at night on the dedicated slopes, thus giving the opportunity to the numerous skiers who flock to the area to be able to enjoy an evening of excellent skiing.
The area, which is not excessively large, is mostly dedicated to beginners and intermediate level skiers. In this regard, two ski schools have arisen, the Sarnano Italian Ski School , Monti Sibillini Italian School. The first is one of the historic ski schools in the Marche region, it has been operating since the late 70s, and in addition to organizing ski courses for the very young, it also organizes the usual end-of-year torchlight procession with mulled wine for everyone. The second one offers a team of high-level instructors, made up of masters from the area specialized in teaching beginners and children. Both schools offer the possibility of taking courses to make the first descents or to refine the technique.
To have fun in the winter, the resort of Sarnano provides ski slopes for all levels, as well as cross-country trails and itineraries for walks in the snow, both on foot and with snowshoes. After a day on the snow you will have the opportunity to attend live music while enjoying a good aperitif, and you can taste the typical dishes of this area in the refreshment points located in the heart of the ski area.
