The country of Solden it is located in the Otz valley in the Austrian Tyrol, beyond the South Tyrolean Val Passiria. To reach it in winter you need to go through Innsbruck as the pass that connects the two valleys is closed, lengthening the road by a couple of hours. This leads Solden to be a little more inconvenient than normal, being located about three hours by car from Trento. But once you arrive, the hardships will disappear: in fact, you need to know that Solden is the first stage of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, which is held towards the end of October. Definitely early for the normal winter ski season, this is possible because a large part of the Solden ski area winds along the glacier which ensures excellent snow throughout the season.
From the village of Solden, direct access to further is possible 140 km of downhill slopes, served by 33 ski lifts. The black runs total 29km, the red runs 45km and the blue runs 69km. Most of them are located over 2500 meters above sea level, and therefore skiing and snowboarding are guaranteed throughout the season. In recent years, important updates have been made to the ski facilities and a modern artificial snow system has been installed directly on the glacier capable of exploiting the low temperatures of the summit to produce snow in quantity.
Among the lifts in Solden there are cable cars that reach the top of 3 mountains, each of which is higher than 3000 meters: they are the Rettenbach glacier, Tiefenbachkogl and Gaislachkogl. Each of these three peaks, referred to as the "Big 3", features a viewing platform on the summit that provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding valleys. It is also possible to pass through all the Big 3 via a route called the Big 3 rally, which has a difference in altitude of over 10 meters and can be covered in about 4 hours of high-level skiing.
Solden is one of the most important ski resorts in the winter tourism landscape, this magnificent ski area is becoming the center of winter fun for young and old from all over Europe. The success of this resort is that it has succeeded in combining the stupendous ski slopes with numerous events and a truly vibrant nightlife, one of the best in the Alps, worthy of the most fashionable summer resorts.
Already from 3 in the afternoon the village comes alive thanks to its 45 bars, restaurants, cafes and discos. More than 20 of them are open until after midnight, some discos even until 4 in the morning but despite everything the skiers get up early, and a new, beautiful day on the glacier begins.
