Splügen, a Swiss municipality in the Canton of Grisons, rises 1460 meters above sea level and has just under 400 inhabitants. It is located on the northern slope of the Spluga pass, lies on the left bank of the Posterior Rhine and is a few kilometers from Chiavenna, Chur and Bellinzona.

This well-known resort is the ideal destination for an unforgettable snow holiday because tourists (including children) can practice winter sports at all levels in total safety.

The teachers of the School Switzerland of Ski and Snowboard offer, for example, group lessons from Monday to Friday with inclusion in a class according to the Swiss Snow League criteria and there is also the possibility of taking private lessons, by appointment, in snowboarding, cross-country skiing and alpine. The little ones can, however, take advantage of dedicated lessons with appropriately trained teachers at the children's village of Splügen-Tambo.

Ski and snowboard lovers can therefore take 7 lifts (0 cable cars, 2 chair lifts, 1 ski lift, 2 gondola lifts, 0 funicular railways and 2 treadmills) to reach 14 different slopes with a different level of difficulty (7 easy, 5 medium and 2 complex) for a total of 30 km.

Finally, Splügen offers tourists several very interesting additional services such as free parking at the valley station, night-time bus transfers to take part in evening events and lockers of varying sizes (some of them are heated) for ski storage, suits, snowboards, boots and rackets.

What to do if you don't ski

Splügen is the ideal destination for a White week or a hit-and-run holiday because there are so many opportunities to have fun; tourists can take part in speed skating and telemark (an ancient style of skiing where the heel is free) lessons lasting two hours (minimum 3 participants) by renting specific equipment in the dedicated shop.

Nature lovers can, however, go and discover the area by taking part in snowshoe excursions lasting an average of 4 hours (trips are organized when the minimum number of tourists is reached).

The offer is completed by romantic sleigh rides with or without dogs (even in the evening), heli skiing (a form of skiing where you reach the summit with the aid of a helicopter), sled rides (the route is located in the nearby village of Sufers), night descents on illuminated slopes (every Friday) and snow tubing; the latter in particular is very successful among adults and children because it involves real sliding on the snow with the aid of single-seater or two-seater inflatable boats.

The most interesting innovation in recent years concerns, however, the introduction of silent electric snowmobiles for children; these vehicles, studied and designed specifically for the town of Splügen, are entirely powered by electricity and are in operation starting from 11.00 am (weather permitting).

The circuit is signposted and controlled by trained personnel in such a way as to guarantee maximum safety during the race. Tambo-Racers can be practiced by all children aged between 6 and 12 years (14 years permitted age limit).

The little ones (up to 12 years old) can, however, ride on free electric tricycles (Tambo-Sliders). Finally, kids who don't like thrills and adrenaline can play PlayStation, XBOX and other games using the wi-fi Internet connection where necessary.

Snow holidays

Splügen is the perfect destination for wonderful holidays in the snow of young people looking for fun, couples and families with and without children. The well-known Swiss resort, which is located in a strategically perfect point in terms of snow, boasts a long list of activities in which tourists from all over the world can take part.

There are numerous slopes (the longest extends for 8 km) with different levels of difficulty (some of them are more complex and particularly appreciated by more expert skiers), itineraries intended for hikers, areas dedicated to ice skating and circuits for sled rides.

The more romantic ones can, however, ski in the evening hours to experience unique emotions and end the day with a typical dinner in a mountain hut (the slopes are open and illuminated every Friday evening from 18.00pm to 21.30pm).

Children can take ski and/or snowboard lessons (private or group) with appropriately trained instructors, but the unbridled fun comes by practicing snow tubing in the company of parents and friends.

Splügen can therefore be considered, in light of what has been said, the perfect destination because in a single location there is a wide range of proposals: some meet the needs of expert and daring skiers, while others are intended for an audience of more relaxed tourists. .
