THEAlta Badia is one of the most famous ski areas in Italy, is located in the heart of the Dolomites between 1.400 and 2.700 meters above sea level and offers tourists 95 slopes over more than 130 skiable km (among the longest and most popular are the Lagazuoi slope and the Vallon – Corvara). Of these, 88 km are equipped with artificial snow systems with 475 snow cannons and 41 snow groomers, and guarantee optimal conditions for winter sports from November to April). There are 51 lifts (among these there are not only the more traditional lifts such as chair lifts and cable cars) and they can transport up to a maximum of 84.150 people every hour.
In Alta Badia the ski school has over 200 ski instructors (whose presence is also useful for connoisseurs, who can learn new techniques), some of whom are also former members of the Italian national ski team, but not only: for those who wish a ski mountaineering excursion in complete safety can have highly qualified alpine guides.
Lo cross country finds space in 30km of trails divided into two cross-country centres, the Alta Badia cross-country center and the Corvara-Colfosco cross-country area. The Alta Badia cross-country ski center is the largest and is located 3km from San Cassiano, offering about 26km of slopes surrounded by nature. In addition to the splendid surrounding landscape, the area is served by a service center with changing rooms, ski school, rental and refreshment points, and in the event of poor snow, the snow cannons come into action capable of covering 4 km of track with snow.
Lo snowboarding and freestyle skiing they are practicable in the large snowpark of the district. In fact, right next to two of the most important slopes in Alta Badia, La Frëina and Ciampai, there is a large snow park with free access, equipped with all the necessary structures. The park is divided according to two levels of difficulty (the lower part for the inexperienced and the upper one for the more "experienced").
And again, you can practice the descent with the sledding (even if you are not so small anymore), ice skating, healthy walks in the parks and woods that extend for miles and miles in every corner of the area and, for the exciting walks with snowshoes there are over 80 km of safe and well-signposted routes, surrounded by nature.
