Alta Badia is one of Italy's most famous ski areas, located in the heart of the Dolomites, between 1.400 and 2.700 meters above sea level. It offers tourists 95 slopes across more than 130 km of skiable terrain (among the longest and most popular are the Lagazuoi and Vallon-Corvara slopes). Of these, 88 km are equipped with artificial snowmaking systems, with 475 snow cannons and 41 snow groomers, guaranteeing optimal conditions for winter sports from November to April. There are 51 ski lifts (including more traditional ones such as chairlifts and gondolas) and they can transport up to 84.150 people per hour.
In Alta Badia the ski school has over 200 ski instructors (whose presence is also useful for connoisseurs, who can learn new techniques), some of whom are also former members of the Italian national ski team, but not only: for those who wish a ski mountaineering excursion in complete safety can have highly qualified alpine guides.
Cross-country skiing offers 30 km of trails divided between two cross-country centers: the Alta Badia Cross-Country Center and the Corvara-Colfosco Cross-Country Area. The Alta Badia Cross-Country Center is the largest and is located 3 km from San Cassiano. It offers approximately 26 km of trails immersed in nature. In addition to the splendid surrounding landscape, the area is served by a service center with changing rooms, a ski school, rentals, and refreshments. In case of poor snow conditions, snow cannons are activated, capable of covering 4 km of trails.
Snowboarding and freestyle skiing are available in the resort's large snow park. Right next to two of Alta Badia's most important slopes, La Frëina and Ciampai, there's a large, free-to-access snow park equipped with all the necessary facilities. The park is divided into two difficulty levels (the lower section for beginners and the higher section for more experienced skiers).
And you can also go sledding ( even if you're not so young anymore), ice skating, take healthy walks in the parks and woods that stretch for miles and miles in every corner of the area, and for exciting snowshoe walks, there are over 80 km of safe and well-marked trails, immersed in nature.
