Il Horn at the Stairs it is a mountain 1945 meters above sea level so named for the jagged and angular shape of the north wall; is part ofNorthern Apennines, and is located in the province of Bologna. In the area there is a ski resort which is undoubtedly of primary importance in this area, this being the only one in the province.
It is the destination above all for tourists from Tuscany and Emilia, as well as numerous groups for school trips from all over Italy, and is mentioned not only in the main Italian newspapers and periodicals, but also in various French, English, German and Dutch newspapers.

There are 13 kilometers of slopes, of varying difficulty, of which 80% are covered by artificial snow systems which allow you to ski an average of 150 days a year, whatever the season. Distributed along a skiable surface that starts from a minimum altitude of 1358 meters and climbs up to the top of the mountain, at an altitude of 1945 meters – the Corno alle Scale ski area offers not only space for classic Alpine skiing but also for Nordic skiing with 2 cross-country rings (Malga and Cavone, for a total of 8 km). There is one snowpark in Le Malghe, an area equipped with spines, humps, rails, parabolic curves and jumps of different levels is available to the ever increasing number of snowboarders, while the youngest guests can unleash their vitality in the colorful world of inflatable games in the Baby Park.

The Direttissima track it is one of the most important of this ski resort, which is classified as a black/red slope due to its difficulty, it has a length of 1300 meters and a difference between the starting altitude and the arrival altitude of almost 300 metres. Among other black slopes are the track Del sole, Duca degli Abruzzi, the Slalom stadium and the Alberto Tomba 1, all with programmed snow systems. The ski lifts can transport up to ten thousand people in just one hour, and consist of 5 chair lifts, two moving walkways and a ski lift.

The area has hosted national and international competitions: University championships, European Cup, Junior Snowboard World Championships, Italian cross-country skiing championships and women's FIS. Alberto Tomba regularly attends the Corno alle Scale (in fact a slope was named after him), in the past years he skied on these slopes to train, and right here he began his career; of these places he says: “It's not just the mountain of my beginnings. It is the mountain of my house”.

In the Corno alle Scale Ski School, active since 1972, not only aspiring skiers can prepare, but also those who practice this sport at a competitive level, thanks to the presence of professional and highly qualified instructors; in the winter season 2000/2001, moreover, a second school was also born in this area, also FISI affiliated, the Freestyle Corno alle Scale ski school, to have the opportunity to practice the main mountain sports in addition to skiing: snowboarding , excursions with snowshoes, ski mountaineering, speed riding/flying, paragliding, climbing and ice rounds on synthetic ice slopes.

  • Not recommended due to the terrible geographical exposure. There is always fog or very strong winds it's incredible! There is never anyone around the slopes
