Il Horn at the Stairs it is a mountain 1945 meters above sea level so named for the jagged and angular shape of the north wall; is part ofNorthern Apennines, and is located in the province of Bologna. In the area there is a ski resort which is undoubtedly of primary importance in this area, this being the only one in the province.
It is the destination above all for tourists from Tuscany and Emilia, as well as numerous groups for school trips from all over Italy, and is mentioned not only in the main Italian newspapers and periodicals, but also in various French, English, German and Dutch newspapers.
There are 13 kilometers of slopes of varying difficulty, 80% of which are covered by artificial snowmaking systems, allowing for an average of 150 days of skiing per year, regardless of the season. Spread across a skiable surface that starts at a minimum altitude of 1358 meters and rises to the mountain's summit at 1945 meters , the Corno alle Scale ski area offers not only classic Alpine skiing but also Nordic skiing, with two cross-country ski trails (Malghe and Cavone, for a total of 8 km). There is a snowpark in Le Malghe , an area equipped with spines, moguls, rails, banked turns, and jumps of various levels, available to the growing number of snowboard enthusiasts, while the youngest guests can unleash their energy in the colorful world of inflatable games at the Baby Park.
The Direttissima run is one of the most important in this ski resort, classified as a black/red run due to its difficulty. It is 1300 meters long and has a difference between the starting and finishing altitudes of almost 300 meters. Other black runs include the Del Sole run, the Duca degli Abruzzi run, the Stadio dello Slalom run, and the Alberto Tomba 1 run , all with artificial snow systems. The ski lifts can carry up to ten thousand people in a single hour and consist of five chairlifts, two moving walkways, and a surface lift.
The area has hosted national and international competitions: University Championships, the European Cup, the Junior Snowboard World Championships, the Italian Cross-Country Skiing Championships, and the FIS Women's Skiing Championships . Alberto Tomba is a regular at Corno alle Scale (in fact, a slope is named after him). In past years, he has trained on these slopes, and it was here that he began his career. Of these places, he says: "It's not just the mountain where I started out. It's my home mountain . "
In the Corno alle Scale Ski School, active since 1972, not only aspiring skiers can prepare, but also those who practice this sport at a competitive level, thanks to the presence of professional and highly qualified instructors; in the winter season 2000/2001, moreover, a second school was also born in this area, also FISI affiliated, the Freestyle Corno alle Scale ski school, to have the opportunity to practice the main mountain sports in addition to skiing: snowboarding , excursions with snowshoes, ski mountaineering, speed riding/flying, paragliding, climbing and ice rounds on synthetic ice slopes.

The Corno alle Scale ski resort is located in a relatively central and easily accessible area, as it is a few tens of kilometers away from important Italian cities such as Bologna, Modena, Pistoia and Florence.

Not recommended due to the terrible geographical exposure. There is always fog or very strong winds it's incredible! There is never anyone around the slopes
